Hyde and Seek Your Next Champion
So how did Glenn and Ruth Hyde become so passionate about horses, they decided to start a business?
“Well, when you grow up on a farm, a love of horses comes naturally,” says Ruth.
For Glenn, being a farm kid and 4H-er, showing cattle, was just the beginning. “As a kid I wished more than anything that my dad would let me show purebred stock," he chuckles. “I guess I had to wait another 40 years to make that happen on my own.” And by then the interest in cattle had turned to a more equine pursuit.
"It started innocently enough," Ruth recalls. Glenn came home one day and said he had just bought a mare. “Now this wouldn’t have been out of the ordinary, except we didn’t even own an acreage!” Ruth laughs.
Well one mare begat two perfect foals with all the right elements to show at halter and became the future breeding stock of Hyde Show Horses. Seven years later, Ruth and Glenn have embraced the halter horse lifestyle completely. (Just ask Glenn to show you his prized buckles!) Their acreage just east of Airdrie, Alberta is all about the horses.
“It’s not uncommon to spend 30 out 52 weekends involved in some aspect of the show horse circuit," Glenn says. “And we couldn’t be happier. There is a strong sense of community that we’ve really missed living in larger centres, we’ve made the most genuine friends, our life is richer and fuller because of the show horse circuit.”
Today Glenn and Ruth oversee a stable of ten horses including their most prized horse, Te Tyme Zip, a triple registered quarter horse and 2005 Pinto World Amateur Champion, who is now available for stud.
The Hyde’s enthusiasm and love for horses is matched by their integrity, honesty and strong business acumen. They retained the services of world-renown trainer Todd Bailey to ensure Hyde Show Horses are conditioned and prepared for their years at show and future successful breedings.
The Hydes love to talk with other halter horse enthusiasts and welcome your calls and emails and bets of all, the chance to sit down over a cup of coffee and talk halter horses. They just can’t hyde their enthusiasm!
Hyde Show Horses is tremendously pleased to be working in association with the respected Todd Bailey. Based out of Penhold, Todd is a well known trainer and judge across North America.
